Love on the beach

I’ll be honest with you. I wasn’t sure if wedding photography was for me. I don’t see myself on a busy dance floor into the middle of the night, or trying to recreate carefully curated Pinterest dreams. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted some of that from the photographer at MY wedding and he did an absolutely incredible job (see below) - I just don’t think I have the juice myself, to keep up with a wedding party into the night (sober and focused) or whether I have the precise skills to promise perfection to a couple who are looking for it.

However - after photographing Amy and Dame’s wedding on a sunny afternoon recently, it made me realise what wedding photography can do for me rather than what I can do for it. What better way to spend a day, than with a group of people who are entirely focused on celebrating love and how much they love each other. From the moment that Dame saw Amy arrive at the town hall, to the final vision of him carrying her sea soaked dress behind her up the steps from Daymer Bay - it was heavy with beautiful, tender and unconditional love.

Heavy seems a strange word in this case, but I think my heart had been heavy for a while with all the goings on in this strange world and spending a day purely celebrating love was just the very tonic that it needed. The new weight of love was welcome.

I usually photograph birth, families, small businesses and community events - it makes sense that in my endeavour to photograph the beauty and grit of real life that wedding photography could feature. I take time to get to know the people that I am working with, I pay attention and do my best to notice the small things as well as the big ones. I try to capture the essence and the feel of the moment and not just the details.

People have described me as calm, sensitive, unobtrusive, creative and a joy to work with.. (thank God for testimonials!) You can read a bit more about me here.

This is the beautiful testimonial that Amy wrote for me after her wedding day:

“Shout out to this beautiful soul for being a part of our special day and capturing every moment! From the minute we met we just clicked! You really are amazing. So many natural photos! Our now memories caught on camera 🥹♥️ I can’t thank or recommend you enough! @hannacollinsphoto forever grateful”

I’m situated perfectly for beach weddings in the South West, just in Cornwall on the border with Devon.

However I am very happy to travel if you are interested in having me come and document your day.

If you think I could be a good fit for you, if you are seeking something informal, creative and laid back, then send me a message and let’s chat.
